Characters

I’ve played a variety of characters over the years, and countless NPCs as a DM. Here you can learn a little bit about them before you read their stories. I've divided this page into loose sections by game to make it more navigable. Each section has a brief summary, and you can click the dropdown to get more exhaustive info on the associated characters.

SCP Foundation

SUMMARY

Characters: Jules Doherty, Najma Behzadi

Jules Doherty
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Jules Melissa Doherty was an agent of the SCP Foundation and leader of Mobile Task Force Epsilon-7 (“Rooster Snatchers”) following the loss of their previous commander. As a child Jules struggled with figuring out where she belonged, eventually train-hopping to roam the United States. She joined the Foundation after assisting in containment of an anomaly at a night club, and served at Site 34 during a breach, with MTF Tau-13 until its near-total loss, and until her death at the hands of SCP-5538. Her romantic relationship with ’38 was determined to be a factor in her death, making her a cautionary tale for agents working closely with Thaumiel-class SCPs. Read stories about Jules.

Najma Behzadi
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Najma Behzadi was an agent of the SCP Foundation and former leader of MTF Epsilon-7 after the death of Jules Doherty. She was part of a group of orphans to be raised in Iran under the supervision of a specialized sub-taskforce of MTF Delta-5. This initiative was labeled Operation Bright Star and formally began in 1992, thirteen years after the Iranian Revolution and the ousting of virtually all western Foundation personnel from the country. Bright Star’s aim was to reassert Foundation influence in Iran by seeding double agents into the Office for the Reclamation of Islamic Artifacts (ORIA) and, through them, either destabilizing the rival agency or turning it into a puppet for the Foundation. After the operation was discovered, she was brought to the United States, where she served for some time before being contaminated by an anomaly and turned against the Foundation. Entropy

SUMMARY

Characters: Androktones-004 (aka Rok)

Androktones-004
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Androktones-004 was an AI created by warmind Hippolyta, an AI commissioned by weapons magnate Marpesia Solange in 2651. As the “daughter” of Hippolyta, Androktones-004 served Marpesia as she cemented her wealth and prestige, influenced by the woman’s obsession with the ancient legend of the Amazons. Hippolyta conspired to drive Marpesia insane, however, and after her death seized control of her resources to wage war on multiple systems before presumably being destroyed. Androktones-004 was one of the only survivors, and changed hands multiple times before becoming first mate to a smuggler named Ennig Moore in 3219. Read stories about Rok.

Kind of Blue

SUMMARY

Characters: h3x (aka Rami Kapoor), Kimiya Shioji

h3x (aka Rami Kapoor)
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

h3x, as his handle might suggest, is a hacker. Prior to intervention by his friends and crewmates aboard the frigate Kind of Blue, he subsisted solely on coffee, cheap nutrient paste, and a highly-addictive combat stimulant called Psych. His addiction stemmed from traumatic brain damage he sustained after cyberware implanted in his brain overloaded, killing him briefly and leaving him with an impaired capacity to feel after being revived, as well as his memory of almost everything that happened in his life before he got burned lost to him. These days h3x is one of the sector’s most consummate programmers, the recipient of a bleeding-edge breakthrough in neural regeneration, and on the mend— sober and becoming healthier mentally and physically all the time. In spite of this, however, his lost past and questions about who killed him still hang over him. Read stories about h3x.

The Library

SUMMARY

Characters: Frankie Benham, Ginika Ezemonye, Margot ___, Max Chieng

Francis/Frances Benham
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Francis Trembley Benham grew up among the English gentry. He read Classics at Oxford but was more interested in his friends, a circle of aesthetes and reprobates who spent more time writing dirty poetry on expensive stationery than revising. It was within their permissive clique he began to express himself as both a man and a woman, debuting as Miss Frances Benham for the first time. She found moving between gender presentations very comfortable but was robbed of this peace by WWI. Francis served as a stretcher-bearer on the Western Front for less than a year before he was outed to a superior officer. The details of his discharge damning and court-martial pending, Frankie fled the country to New Orleans and now shares a home with her cousin Regis. Read stories about Frankie.

Ginika Ezemonye
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

The being that walked out of the swamp and into New Orleans in the spring of 1920 is called Ginika Ezemonye now, but she has had many names before. Makrû in Akkad, Reshef in Ugarit, Anyanwu by the Ṇ́dị́ Ìgbò, Mīkā’īl in Arabia, and Michael by many who came after. A being of flame and action, she is the right hand of the being some humans call God, strange and unknowable. Despite her alien nature and apparent hatred for some of the hunters gathered in New Orleans, Ginika had some notable affection for humans, and hostility towards supernatural forces and beings who would tamper with their lives. As time wore on and the hunters grew on her, she began to reveal more about her strange existence and struggle with personhood. Read stories about Ginika.

Oneshots/Misc Characters

SUMMARY

Characters: Delia vch Caerwyn, Tova, Tae, Poppy Nithercott-Drachedandion, Maggie, Dr. Adelaide Vice, Tender

Delia vch Caerwyn
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Delia vch Caerwyn served the Church of Amn as a Witchfinder. Born a peasant, never taught to read or write, and one of many children put to work on her parents’ land, Delia was accustomed to a life of little comfort when a fever swept through her village. It killed almost her entire family and ruined their prospects, leading Delia to wander the countryside. She was picked up in her wandering and tried for witchcraft, an event which left her psychologically and physically scarred. Despite the horrible experience, it radicalized her faith and led her to seek work with the church. During her training it was discovered her trauma gave her the ability to enter a berserker rage, triggered by stress or cold water. Read stories about Delia.

Tova
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Tova was the child of a tryst between a Tiefling and a human, sold as a curiosity, then as a working slave, then as a gladiator when she put on muscle. During her career she befriended the prickly elven blacksmith who supplied her weapons, Lyquis Meliamne. Tova won her freedom in a fight against a dire lion and credited the victory to the new swords she’d gotten from her, after which she developed feelings for Lyquis. It was due to this that she listened to her advice and left the arena behind to strike out on her own as an adventurer. Not the brightest person ever, Tova thought Lyquis asked her to leave in order to prove herself. In actuality, Lyquis was trying to save her from assassination. This well-meaning move ended with Tova being kidnapped to the Underdark, her escape from which changed her irrevocably by the time she made it back to her love. Read stories about Tova.

Tae
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Tae was ostensibly a young woman with a massive sword and a death wish, who wore flashy clothes, her pink hair tied up in bunches at random angles on her head, no shoes, and a fixed grin that was as much teeth as excitement. An unlikely thug-for-hire, Tae was known for her massive appetite despite a petite frame, unnervingly upbeat mood regardless of the situation, penchant for asking intrusive questions, and irrational fear of healing cyphers. In reality, “Tae” was short for “Taenia potestas,” and the intelligence piloting the body of the young woman actually belonged to a sentient worm located in her intestines. A sort of alien intelligence, Tae explored the Ninth World with a verve few “normal” people could muster, and preferred to keep company with a group… just in case she needed to ditch her body quickly in favor of another nearby. Read stories about Tae.

Poppy Nithercott-Drachedandion
INSERT CHARACTER PICTURE

Poppy Nithercott-Drachedandion was a halfling barbarian, making her an oddity among the otherwise peace-loving smallfolk. After suddenly losing her father at eight, she began suffering from outbursts of wild, unreasoning rage. Her mother, Tulip Nithercott, did the best she could to try to help, with mixed results. As Poppy continued to be a menace the Nithercotts were less welcome among other halflings—not helped when Tulip re-married to a blue dragonborn named Torinn with a child of his own. Poppy was sixteen and Jheri ten when they became siblings. In spite of being the “big sister,” Poppy was just over three feet tall, while Jheri had already reached his adult height of twice that and could breathe lightning. Poppy spent time with him at first because she had few other options, but eventually grew protective of the flamboyant young bard. This led to her following him on a high seas adventure that changed her life forever. Read stories about Poppy.
